Dr. Timothy Sentongo, MBChB

Dr. Timothy and Dr. Mirika Sentongo are married Ugandan physicians who are currently based in Chicago, while returning to Uganda regularly. Both graduated from Makerere University for their medical degrees. Timothy is an Associate Professor at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, where he practices medicine as a pediatric gastroenterologist. He specializes in GI problems impacting growth and nutrition in infants, children and adolescents. He has a particular interest in children with chronic illnesses such as short bowel syndrome, food intolerances, feeding problems and cystic fibrosis, which can lead to impaired growth and require specialized nutrition support and gastrointestinal care. Dr. Sentongo’s research focuses on improving treatment and therapies for children and adolescents with short bowel syndrome, parenteral nutrition (TPN), eosinophilic esophagitis, growth problems and nutritional deficiencies. When in Uganda, Timothy lectures and engages in other volunteer activities that relate to his specialty areas and is looking forward to getting more involved in Bulamu’s work.
