Dr. Margaret Nakakeeto, MBChB, MMed, Ped
Dr. Margaret Nakakeeto is a consultant neonatal pediatrician to partners of the Ministry of Health of Uganda, including UNICEF, RHITES-N, and CHAI, among others. She currently supports both CHAI’s partnership with Uganda, and USAID RHITES-N, where she works to build sustainable responsive systems for newborn survival. She has been involved in various research projects on newborn health issues especially premature babies from disadvantaged and other vulnerable communities, children and women, and has published her work in international scholarly journals. Her professional interests include lecturing, leadership, and management in medical educational institutions. Margaret served as the Head of Pediatrics and Neonatology Department, Kibuli Muslim hospital from 2015 to 2018; Head of the Neonatal Unit, Kampala Hospital, Kololo from 2010 to 2014; and Director of Neonatology, Kampala Children’s Hospital (KCH) from 2004 to 2007. She holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB,ChB) from Makerere University, a Master’s of Medicine in Pediatrics from Makerere University, and has completed a fellowship in Neonatology at UC-San Diego in California.
