Dr. Mary (“Mimi”) Dunne, MD

Dr. Mary “Mimi” Dunne is an award-winning physician with 30 years of clinical leadership and program development, with experience in academic, community, federal, and underserved population settings. She is a pioneer in end-of-life care in New York State and is passionate about opportunities for growth and development, even at the end of life. A leader in palliative medicine in New York’s Hudson Valley, she is engaged in innovation to address suffering and improve the care of the dying. She is currently partnering with colleagues in Rwanda to develop a framework for palliative care family meetings that will be relevant to local culture, as well as globally useful. In addition, she is passionate about global health and is a mentor to young African students pursuing higher education in North America, including those pursuing medicine. Mimi graduated from Saint Louis University School of Medicine and completed her residency at the University of Chicago. She is board-certified in Emergency Medicine, Hospice & Palliative Medicine, and trained in Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction. She has contributed studies, articles, and book chapters on Emergency Medicine, Palliative Medicine, and Global Health. She is currently a Distinguished Career Institute (DCI) fellow at Stanford University.
