Dr. Pauline Byakika, MSc, MMed, PhD
Dr. Pauline Byakika is a physician, epidemiologist, academic, and researcher. She is an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Chair of the Department of Medicine at Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS). She received her master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics in 2000, and master’s degree in Medicine in 2002 from Makerere University. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacokinetics from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland in 2012, and completed her postdoctoral studies in 2014. Pauline is an active researcher and the Director of Research and chair of the Scientific Review Committee at the Department of Medicine, where she coordinates research activities and supervises students’ projects. She has successfully written and managed research grants both as Principal Investigator and co-investigator, with over 40 papers published in peer-reviewed journals. She is a member of the Accreditation Committee for Research Ethics Committees in Uganda, fellow of Uganda Academy of Sciences, and consultant for the Ministry of Health and partners for Malaria and HIV/AIDS Control. At a regional level, Pauline is a Commissioner of the East African Health Research Commission.
